A hotel with an enviable history, a stay at Ritz Hotel in Madrid guarantees a glimpse into a bygone era of decadence, distinction and class. This grande dame is soon to turn 100 years old yet still this is the address where the city's elite regularly turn up, just as they did back in 1910. The Ritz has played a crucial role in the life of Madrid for over a century and today the hotel remains a key attraction for many visitors to this European capital.

Ideally located close to the Prado and Thyssen museums in the fashionable Retiro district, the Ritz is an oasis of tranquillity and architectural magnificence. Guests who have stayed include Paloma Picasso, Richard Gere and Nelson Rockefeller and too many dignitaries and politicians to mention. The hotel continually wins international awards, including a position in Travel + Leisure's 500 World's Best Hotels 2009.

All rooms are individually furnished in grand English and French styles, with views that overlook the Prado. The rooms are large and intimate with quilted curtains and big double beds. Wireless Internet connection is in all rooms to help you carry on working and fax machines can be requested if needed. The beautiful wall-to-wall carpets were handmade at the Royal Tapestry Factory nearby.

The pride of the staff and the care and attention to every last detail makes Hotel Ritz Madrid one of the most welcoming and elegant hotels in the world and shows how the art of luxury living has been made a reality over the years.

The Goya restaurant is very well regarded and offers a delicious menu of creative dishes, original in concept and presentation and influenced by French and Basque Cuisine. Try the Confit Duck Liver with Date Mousseline, followed by Chateaubriand de Buey Tradicional for a truly culinary experience.

It would be a shame afterward dinner not to mingle at the wood-panelled bar which is always popular into the early hours. Elegance radiates at The Ritz and formal attire is required here at all times, even at the bar.

Business travellers are well catered for. There are conference managers to assist at the different meeting rooms (capacity for anything from two to 500 people) and all five meeting salons have plenty of natural daylight and ISDN connections for video-conferences.
